ANDREAS SELTZER Hoffmann´s Hochzeit

We are very excited about the upcoming solo exhibition "Hoffmann's Hochzeit" by Andreas Seltzer, which will open at Laura Mars Gallery during Berlin Art Week on Friday, September 15, 2023. Andreas Seltzer, 79, is an artist, curator and writer. Born in Gdansk, he came to West Berlin in the 1960s to study painting at the Hochschule der Künste and also became interested in photography and the visual worlds of others. In the 1970s, for example, he photographed the warning graffiti of a man called "Sendermann." With Dieter Hacker, from 1976 he published "Volksfoto. Zeitung für Fotografie." The magazine consists of photographs with essayistic commentary; found objects, photo walks and his own photo research. Until the 1980s, numerous exhibitions on photography and Volkskunst were curated at the 7th Produzentengalerie Berlin. From 1981 to 1984 he was the organizer of the Friedrichstraße Gallery.

Since the 2000s, he has produced extensive series of drawings such as "Die Reise zum Mittelpunkt der Erde", "Verdun", the "Sonne von Mexiko" and others. Seltzer participated in numerous exhibitions, most recently "Gezeichnete Stadt: Arbeiten auf Papier - 1945 bis heute" at the Berlinische Galerie, "In bester Gesellschaft: Ausgewählte Erwerbungen des Berliner Kupferstichkabinetts 2009-2019" as well as exhibitions at the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, Hamburg; Galerie Stella A., Berlin; Museo Reina Sofia, Madrid, Spain; Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte, Munich; Museum Folkwang, Essen; Deichtorhallen / Sammlung Falckenberg, Hamburg; Städtische Galerie, Waldkraiburg; Villa Merkel, Esslingen; Kunsthalle Hamburg; Zendai Museum of Modern Art, Shanghai, China; Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey; DA2, Salamanca, Spain; Kunsthalle Fridericianum, Kassel; ifa Galerie, Brussels, Belgium and Warsaw, Poland; Haus am Waldsee, Berlin and others.
